Montefalco is a hilltown in central Umbria, with strong battlemented town walls and churches with exceptionally fine frescoes.

You can find several churches in different styles, from Gothic to Romanesque to Renaissance.

The most important church is the San Francesco church, which has a collection of art, handicrafts and frescoes of the life of Saint Francis and has become the museum of Montefalco.

Montefalco is known for its wine and every year around Easter, the town sponsors a major festival called Settimana Enologica or  “Wine Week” where visitors can enjoy the principal wines produced in the area including the comparatively simple red table wine, Montefalco Rosso, the more complex DOCG red wines Sagrantino, for which the area is famous, and the Montefalco Sagrantino Secco.

Every year the town celebrates “La corsa dei Bovi”, held in the month of August, it recalls the popular game held on Christmas Day in the Middle Ages: athletes from each district (San Bartolomeo, San Fortunato, San Francesco and Sant’ Agostino) accompany and guide a bull along a path and the district winner wins a prize “palio”.

Montefalco is a perfect place to celebrate your wedding in a quite medieval town, with excellent wines.

The wedding ceremony can be held in the 13th century Town Hall or in a church inside or outside the Town walls.

There are different options for the wedding reception, tell us what you are looking for and we will arrange it for you!

If you are looking for something special you could even have the wedding reception in a winery, set up with beautiful gazebos between the vineyards.
