Spoleto

ANCIENT MEDIEVAL JEWEL THAT HOSTS THE WORDLWIDE KNOWN “FESTIVAL DEI DUE MONDI”

Spoleto is a town which is extraordinarily rich historically, its monuments are all linked together in a continuum that knows no interruptions, from prehistoric age to the Lombards, from the Middle Ages to today. It is unanimously acknowledged among the symbols of international culture.
Upon arriving you’re welcomed by the majestic Ponte delle Torri and the mighty Rocca, watchful lookout above the houses gathered on the hill; set in the thick woods on the slopes of Monteluco, the church of San Pietro looks over the valley.
The historic centre can only be explored on foot and you will be impressed by the the narrow cobbled streets which mantain their original shape and charm.

Spoleto is known worldwide for the Festival dei due Mondi, an important cultural event held annually in late June-early July since 1958 .The festival has developed into one of the most important cultural manifestations in Italy, with a three-week schedule of music, theater and dance performances.

The Duomo is a very impressive cathedral with a medieval setting and athmosphere, and is an unforgettable setting for a wedding.

The San Ponziano church is a notable complex lying outside the city’s walls, dedicated to the patron saint of Spoleto. The church was built in the 12th century in Romanesque style, but was later modified, the crypt, however, has remained untouched, with its five small naves and small apses with cross-vault, ancient Roman spolia columns and frescoes of the 14th-15th centuries.

Near the Duomo is the official wedding hall in an elegant Palazzo decorated with beautiful frescoes and original 1400’s antiques.

Normally it’s also possible to have a civil wedding ceremony in the Rocca, a magnificent ancient fortress overlooking the entire valley and Spoleto, but at the moment it is being restored, so it may not be possible to have a wedding there.

The above mentioned places are just a few places where you can have your wedding ceremony, there are more churches inside and outside Spoleto where you can celebrate a catholic or symbolic wedding.

As you can imagine, the possibilities for the wedding reception are endless and very suggestive, from ancient palazzo’s, to elegant castles, beautiful villas, rustic restaurants….
